Court Orders NDLEA to Produce Influencer KC Luxury After 14 Days in Custody

YourCity News | August 27, 2026 A Federal High Court in Lagos has ordered the National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA) to produce detained social media influencer and businessman Afolabi Kazeem Michael, popularly known as “KC Luxury,” following claims that he has spent 14 days in custody without being formally charged. Justice Friday Ogazi issued the order on Thursday after an ex parte application filed by the influencer through his counsel, A. Labi-Lawal, SAN, under the Fundamental Rights (Enforcement Procedure) Rules 2009. According to the application, Michael was arrested by NDLEA operatives on August 13, 2026, at Murtala Muhammed International Airport in Lagos while preparing to travel to Paris. His father, Eric Afolabi, who deposed to the supporting affidavit, alleged that his son has remained in custody since the arrest without being informed of any specific offence or charged before a competent court. The court directed the NDLEA to be served with the motion and related processes within four working days, respond within five days of service, and produce Michael in court on the next adjourned date. The case has been adjourned to September 9, 2026, for hearing of the substantive application. In the suit, Michael is seeking declarations that his continued detention without a formal charge violates his fundamental rights under the 1999 Constitution. He is asking for immediate release or, alternatively, bail on liberal terms. He also claims the agency searched his residence at Movamo Court, Banana Island, Lagos, without presenting a search warrant and seized items including cash, luxury watches, handbags, an iPhone 15, a Lexus RX350, and a 2024 Toyota Hilux. He is seeking the return of the items and damages totaling ₦190 million for alleged unlawful arrest, detention, invasion of privacy, and circulation of photographs and videos of him in custody. Michael further raised medical concerns, stating he suffers from acute and severe asthma that requires urgent treatment not adequately available at the detention facility. He noted he has a permanent address in Lagos, strong family and business ties in Nigeria, and is willing to surrender his international passport and comply with bail conditions. The NDLEA has linked the arrest to an investigation into the interception of 184.50 kilogrammes of cocaine allegedly connected to an international trafficking network that used Nigeria as a transit hub for shipments to the United Kingdom, Europe, and Asia. The agency stated that its probe also led to the seizure of foreign currencies and luxury items, along with related searches.
