Oyetola Condemns Osun Election Violence, Calls for Dialogue

Politics Must Not Become Bloodshed’ – Oyetola Condemns Osun Violence Former Governor of Osun State and current Minister of Marine and Blue Economy, Gboyega Oyetola, has condemned the violent incidents recorded before, during, and after the just-concluded governorship election in Osun State. In a statement issued on Tuesday in Osogbo by his Special Adviser, Dr Bolaji Akinola, Oyetola described the loss of lives as unacceptable and insisted that neither politics nor business interests should lead to bloodshed. “Politics must be a vehicle for development, not a catalyst for bloodshed,” he said. The minister called on all parties to embrace dialogue instead of violence and urged security agencies to: • Strengthen presence in volatile areas • Drive hoodlums away from public places • Arrest and prosecute those linked to the killings Oyetola also expressed condolences to the families of the deceased and appealed to residents of Osun to exercise restraint so that the state’s tradition of peaceful coexistence is not destroyed. His statement follows confirmation by the Osun State Police Command that two civilians were killed and two police officers seriously injured when hoodlums attacked officers in Ikire, Irewole Local Government Area on Monday.
